To miss

To "miss" to me implies
"a swing and a..."
but to miss someone, something
you must first have connected in the past
to expect the familiar
crack of the ball instantly changing direction
floating off into the distance
To miss
is to feel your body twisting sadly and uselessly
in the vacuum behind the ball
